Snapchat's Future
I was on Social Media Week today when I came across an
article by Eric Goldschein titled “5 Intriguing Insights Into The Future Of
Snapchat”. As a frequent Snapchat user, I was looking forward to what the
article had to talk about. It was mainly talking about if Snapchat were to
become the biggest social media platform right now it would be now. Facebook is
under fire as being in it only for the money and the breaks in privacy lately.
Twitter is also being hit hard with people complaining about bots and people
trolling others. Snapchat could start to gain an even bigger following and
frequent user’s.
I have loved Snapchat since the beginning, since it was free
everyone young adult in high school and college wanted to get it. To be able to
send pictures to friends about what you were doing or who you were with and it would
only stay up for a few seconds was a pretty cool idea. That way you could let
people know what you were doing most of the time without having to post
multiple post on Facebook or Twitter and it stays on the timeline for a long
time. It was the first of its kind and everyone wanted to be a part of it.
The article goes into how Snapchat as a company is growing.
They had a reporter come into the company once and said that they have “secret”
meetings where people can talk about deep secrets to each other. It’s an
amazing company idea to keep people together and remind them that they are like
a family. They actually put their employees before everyone else, they think
that a happy company will make people want to use their product. I agree with
that thinking, that usually a company that wants to stay and work like a family
will do great things.
As of May 2017, Snapchat had grown to 166 million daily
users with approximately 3,000 employees worldwide. I know that I will be one
of those daily users because I like to talk to people. I also like to let
people know what I am doing as well as know what they are doing. A lot of great
activities have started from people just seeing that they are both bored and
decide to go out and do something. Personally, I have gone out on hikes and
played sports with friends that were as bored as me and wanted to do something.
Well that is all I have to say about that, Snapchat has been a great thing and
I hope it never goes away.
I didn't use Snapchat before come to US, but I downloaded it recently. It is interesting that Snapchat as a company have "secret" meetings. I am very interested in what they are talking about, but the "secret" has special meaning... I am looking forward to the future of Snapchat!
ReplyDeleteI think its very interesting that Snapchat was able to bounce back from all of the negativity it has received from its more recent updates. I know that personally, the app has seemingly become less popular, so I think its refreshing to see your findings. For me, most of my social media time is spent on Instagram. The two platforms revolve around images and videos and I think they recognize the other as a competitor. Snapchat also crashed very frequently for me and that's why I chose Instagram over it.
ReplyDeleteIt is refreshing that both Instagram and Snapchat do try new things and I love getting updates just to see what is new. It takes some time getting used to, but usually they are cool updates. Social Media in general is such a great thing in my mind because I love to connect and meet new people. I live by the motto that "You can never have to many friends".
DeleteThis was super interesting to read about. The future of snapchat is definitely a mix of emotions for a lot of people. I personally use snapchat probably more than I should but I do think it’s a great way to connect with people. I have a lot of mixed emotions about the app but overall I’m excited to see how it continues to change and grow in the future!
