Updating Social Media
Even though social media
has been around for quite a while now it amazes me that we don’t know that much
about it yet. I personally have been on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.; for
over six years now. Yet I am still learning how to use these social media
platforms every day. Things that are so easy to do like putting hashtags on
tweets and Instagram post, as well as tagging people in my posts. Most people
would be like yeah that is common sense, but in all honesty, I still don’t do
these things on a regular basis.
Over the weekend my
hometown had a festival we call Pioneer Days. It is a big social event, so I
took some pictures and videos of the weekend. I ended up making a small Quik video mashup for Instagram and even
though I had some friends in the video I never tagged them or put any hashtags
on the post. It could have been so easy just to tag a buddy or two and put a
hashtag Pioneer Days or hashtag Best Friends, but I didn’t. It is the small
things that make or break a social media post.
Some small things that
you can do to help build you social media is to pretty much start over. It has been
forever since I have looked at my social media bios or links. As I am typing
this I am going through some of my social media apps and editing my profile.
You would be amazed that refreshing your profile picture, updating your bio,
and linking all your social media platforms together, would help get your name
and post out there. I just got off updating my LinkedIn profile and even
connected with a few more experts in the field of Communication and Public
Relations.
Social Media in my mind
is such a great tool for all ages. It connects us together and helps the small
man connect with bigger names. Never in my life would I have thought a CEO, or an
owner of big/ small company would care to follow my life, but it is an amazing
truth. Connecting with so many people all over the world makes friendships and
possible job connections, which is very helpful for a soon to be graduate like
me. Well that is all I have to say about that, keep on learning as much as you
can about social media because you never know how it might help you in your
future.
The potential for connections in the professional world is mind boggling especially through LinkedIn. I wish there was a way that I could eliminate all of the silly posts that I posted while in high school or even my freshman year of college on Facebook and Twitter but unfortunately it's impossible to do. As we are learning in this class, social media is incredibly powerful and can really help you succeed not only personally but through whatever means you have in your work place.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your comment on how social media has been around now for a decent amount of time, and yet we still do not know everything there is to know about it. I do think that part of that has to do with the fact that it changes all the time, so even if we wanted to know it all, we may possibly never be able to. It is an amazing tool, though, with how it can connect so many people together despite their age, distance, and so on.
