Thoughts About My Last Fall Semester
With finals only two
weeks away I have been thinking about all the tough times I have had at Ohio
Northern University. This semester I have been struggling in couple classes
which is nothing different because I have struggled in class work before. Classes
like Spanish II, Macroeconomics, and my first semester athletic training
clinical type class. Whenever I get frustrated, I think back to those same
times and it’s like remembering that even though I don’t see the light at the
end of the tunnel right now, if I just keep going I will reach that light. In
two weeks I will have finish my last fall semester here at ONU and it is an
amazing feeling knowing I have got this far.
For those of you that
know me personally I have never been good at school, I have always been a hands-on
learner and like to do actions with my learning. I think is why my favorite
classes at ONU have been dancing, natural history, and photojournalism. All
these required me to go out and do something active which I have in turned
learned from. If you are still in college, thinking about going to college, or
have kids that could go to college I give you some advice. You can take your
hard classes and make it look good on a resume but take those “easy” classes
too. I can honestly say that I have remembered more from my easy classes than
my hard classes because they are fun and active. I am more flexible from dance
and have more respect for dancers that do it professionally. I now own a camera
and understand all the time in effort people put into beautiful photos we see every
day. I can tell the differences between certain plants and animals in Ohio and
learned so much more about habitats that we build and destroy.
College is a wonderful
time to learn, meet new people, and “the best discoveries come from the
unexpected”, as ONU might put it. Learn what you are passionate about, but also
open yourself up to new studies as well. I have not looked back at one thing
while at ONU and thought I wish I didn’t take that class or done that thing. I
think trying new things helps you learn what you love and don’t love. I couldn’t
be happier with my experiences at ONU and I hope all my Polar Bears feel the
same way too.
A lot of great points in here, I definitely agree with you. I'm currently taking all hard courses for my engineering degree, which I do enjoy (why I'm going to school for it), but my next two semesters are going to include a lot more humanity courses and electives. I'm very much looking forward to these types of classes for the same reasons you mentioned above. Although I probably won't use a lot of the information attained from these "easier" courses for my future career, I think I will definitely enjoy putting down the math equations and formulas to spend some time learning more about subjects outside of my major.
