Social Media, is it a Good Thing?
Social Media is one of
the biggest growing platforms of media. Everyone from elders to young children
are using their phones to post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. They are
even overpassing news tv shows like CNN and Fox on how people get their news.
It is amazing how technology has changed things in the past ten years. With
this social media becoming such a huge thing people have had to do studies on
it to learn how people are using it. With this research you get people like Guy
Kawasaki and Peg Fitzpatrick who then write books like The Art of Social Media.
People can learn a lot
from these books like how to use social media the write way and some tips on
making your profile even better. Most of the first few chapters to me were
common sense because it is how to use your profile the right way and some
website to find cool articles to share with people. They give you tips how to
make your profile visually look great and when writing articles what to do to
make it pop out to people. They also give you different websites like Alltop and
NPR to get some well written articles. You can then share these articles on social
media to make your profile look professional.
Social media is taking
over our world and some people would say they are even getting addicted to
social media. To me I think social media is a beautiful thing, for the first
time ever we can have friends from across the world and keep in touch with
them. We had an exchange student in high school from Holland and we added each
other on Instagram. To this day we comment on each other’s pictures and check
up with each other every few months. It is amazing that he can be across the world
and we can still talk like he is just 15 minutes away. For those people that
feel addicted to social media all I can say is learn how to use it the proper
way and maybe you do need a break every couple months, but it’s not a bad
thing. Well that’s all I have to say about that, social media can be great,
people just need to learn to use it the right way.
You make some great points here. With any new media of course, there is the potential for people to abuse or become obsessed with a platform. I would argue it depends on the person.
